Turning the first barrel -the money barrel- is something I’ve struggled with on this mare. Thankfully my friend was able to show me a couple things to do to help her learn to drive from behind and stay moving forward, as well as the best way to get her to change her lead leaving first. Before she got sore on her hocks, we were pretty good at popping the lead (going to the left lead) leaving first. But I allowed her to turn the first in a way that wasn’t snappy or efficient so now we go back and re-learn.
